Nick and Katia met in Thessaloniki by accident during their summer vacation at her Uncle’s private practice. At the time Nick was a registrar in Cardiology working in Perth and Katia was studying medicine in Italy. They were fascinated by each other but had to return to their daily lives after their vacation. A few months later they met in Rome and their relationship blossomed. Despite the distance it was the kind of relationship you knew from the first moment was meant to be! They got married in August 2012 in Thessaloniki amongst family, friends and their four month old daughter! Here they share their special day with YGWG readers.

The proposal

Nick proposed two years ago in Thessaloniki. He took me to the place we first met and I could feel his anxiety but I never imagines what was about to happen. He knelt down in front of me and whispered beautiful words and then asked me to marry him. It was a very romantic moment! The beautiful soft live music of the restaurant’s band, the view of the sea with the reflection of the August full moon, the lights of the romantic city and most of all Nick demonstrating his love just made the tears flow! The band congratulated us singing

‘Dance me to the end of Love’ a Leonard Cohen song which became our first dance at our reception.

The dress

I bought my dress from Provonias Boutique in Milan. It was designed by Manuel Mota. It was a full length ivory gown composed of two parts:  a natural silk taffeta skirt covered by a long tunic made of fine Spanish lace. My veil was made of soft ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand embroidered flowers.

The accessories

During the ceremony I wore my hair in a simple chignon completed with the veil. At the reception the chignon was replaced by soft curls and the veil by a fresh orchid. I ‘borrowed’ a pair of diamond earrings from my grandmother and my ‘something new’ was a gorgeous diamond necklace my parents gave me as a wedding gift.

The suit

I also bought my suit from Milan from the Italian House Corneliani. It was a deep blue made to measure suit accompanied by Hugo Boss accessories.

Flower girls

We had four flower girls all dressed in ivory satin dresses by Provonias and in their hair they had white floral garlands. Our youngest bridesmaid was our four month old daughter looking beautiful in her tiny dress.

The Ceremony

It was important for us to preserve the simplicity and holiness of the ceremony. It was very touching that our baby girl was present on our wedding day. Before the ceremony in the Church court we served our guest cold fresh lemonade and our wedding planner Mrs. Papadopoulou distributed ivory lace fans to all our guests in order to make their wait more comfortable under the hot Greek August sun!

The Reception

Our reception was held at the Hyatt Regency of Thessaloniki. We had a cocktail reception in the pre-function area of the hotel’s Grand Ballroom where we offered our guests cocktails and fresh fish canapés. Our guests were then served a five course Mediterranean dinner based on veal, lamb and fresh vegetables.

During the cocktails we had a jazz band playing soft jazz music and through dinner the band played soft Greek and Italian music. The DJ got the party started after dinner until the early hours of the morning!

In this place love is actually in the air! After Santorinin we felw to Miami Florids were we spent a couple of days shopping and visiting the famous beaches like South Beach and Palm Beach. We continued with a cruise in the Caribbean during which we visited Haiti and Jamaica. That was an experience of a lifetime!
